The first group of Chinese sportspersons from table tennis, swimming and women's football teams, arrived in Sao Paulo's prestigious Esporte Clube Pinheiros, the training base of Chinese Olympic delegation for the coming Rio Olympic Games.

China will send 416 sportspersons, including 35 Olympic champions, to the Rio Games in August as the Chinese delegation was unveiled at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing here on Monday.

Senior Communist Party of China (CPC) leader Liu Yunshan told the Rio-bound athletes and coaches to spread the Olympic spirit of unity, friendship and progress at the Games, during a meeting which was held prior to the launch ceremony and also attended by Chinese vice premier Liu Yandong, reports Xinhua.

China held off France 78-73 in the 2016 Sino-European men's basketball championship here on Sunday, its final warmup match in home country before the Rio Olympic Games starting on August 5.

The game was halted for nearly 10 minutes as French players went back to the locker room after China's captain Zhou Peng was invovled in a conflict with the opponents. Zhou was later ejected by referees, reports Xinhua.

Tajikistan U-17 football team beat China 1-0 thanks to a Vahdat Hanonov goal in the third and final round of the 2016 Silk Road Cup youth football tournament in Weinan on Friday.

Hanonov netted the lone goal in the 61st minute through a sharp counterattack. Hanonov, who showed martial arts when he scored two days ago, played 'bowling' with his teammates this time to celebrate the goal, reports Xinhua.

China defeated France 75-70 in an international men's basketball friendly in Yixing.

France held a 9-2 lead in the early stages of the match on Tuesday, but China led the first quarter 20-18 with guard Guo Ailun scoring a three-pointer. France played much more aggressively in the second period to retake the lead 39-34 at the break.

Former Czech star Pavel Nedved has said he hopes to deepen his cooperation with the Chinese Super League (CSL) and help with youth training.

On a tour to China as CSL ambassador, Nedved told Xinhua news agency that he would discuss with the league and the Chinese Football Association on how to help China develop youth football.

"I've got many ideas and I'll be happy if I can play a role in China's youth training," he said through an interpreter on Monday, without elaborating his plan.
