Doctors at a hospital said that Atletico Madrid forward Fernando Torres was "conscious and oriented" after being knocked out during La Liga match in La Coruna against Deportivo. Torres on Thursday was carried off the pitch on a stretcher in the 84th minute of the match at the Riazor, which ended 1-1.

Fernando lost consciousness for several minutes after colliding with Deportivo's Alex BergantiƱos while going up for a header. Visibly stunned, players from both teams watched anxiously as Torres lay on the ground before being taken to a waiting ambulance.

Brazilian football club Santos is prepared to listen to offers from Liverpool for highly rated teenage forward Rodrygo, according to media reports here.

The 16-year-old is yet to establish himself in Santos' first team but is already being compared to former club greats Neymar and Robinho for his speed and dribbling skills.

Liverpool football club on Tuesday appointed Peter Moore, the Electronic Arts Sports chief competition officer, its new chief executive officer.

According to the club website, the Englishman, 61, is a lifelong fan of the Reds and will replace Ian Ayre in June before the start of the 2017-18 season.

Leicester striker Jamie Vardy has asserted that the criticism following the sacking of former manager Claudio Ranieri fired up his teammates ahead of their English Premier League (EPL) clash against Liverpool.

Leicester outclassed Liverpool 3-1 here late on Monday evening ending a run of five successive EPL defeats. It was their first EPL match following the removal of the experienced Ranieri as manager. The Italian had scripted a dream run for Leicester last season, guiding them to their first-ever EPL title.

Leicester City escaped the relegation zone with a convincing 3-1 home win against Liverpool in their first match since the firing of manager Claudio Ranieri. The Foxes entered the contest in 18th place, with 21 points from 25 matches, and were in danger of becoming the first team since 1938 to be relegated the season after winning the league.

In Monday night's clash at King Power Stadium, the squad showed the same form that won them the title in 2015-2016. Intense on offense, solid in their own end, and incisive on set pieces, the Foxes were dominant against fifth-place Liverpool in their first outing under interim coach Craig Shakespeare.

Italian football team manager Gabriele Oriali has asserted that striker Mario Balotelli's possible return to the national squad may be affected by his poor on-field discipline this season. Balotelli, who has scored nine league goals so far for French Ligue 1 side Nice, has picked up three red cards this season.

Oriali on Tuesday emphasised the team's code of ethics in front of reporters.
