Joachim Loew will be coaching Germany until 2018, the German Football Federation (DFB) has confirmed in an official statement.

The statement ended the speculations of the coach's departure after Germany lost to France in the European Championship semifinal last week.

The Euro football championship semi-final between France and Germany drew the largest TV audience in France since 2006, according to statistics company Médiamétrie.

The TF1 channel that aired the match played in Marseille said in a statement that it had a total audience share of 68.8 per cent with 19.2 million viewers, and 22.2 million at its peak, reports Efe.

Germany's football team head coach Joachim Low said that too many things went wrong for his side during the defeat to France in the European Championship semi-final here.

Antoine Griezmann was the hero for the hosts, as he on Thursday scored twice to secure a 2-0 victory over the reigning world champions and set up final clash against Portugal on Sunday.

A goal in either half from forward Antoine Griezmann sent hosts France through to the final of Euro 2016 courtesy of a hard earned 2-0 win over World Champions Germany, who played the prettier football but lacked a quality marksman who could provide a finishing touch to their fantastic approach play.

Germany, missing three regular starters due to injury, chose to deploy Thomas Muller to lead their line, dropping playmaker Mesut Ozil out onto the right wing and Julian Draxler onto the left. Bastian Schweinsteiger replaced Sami Khedira in the heart of midfield, while Emre Can dropped in alongside him for his first start of the tournament too.

Germany eased their way into the Quarter-finals of Euro 2016 with a comfortable 3-0 win over Slovakia in a game which they completely dominated from start to finish.

Jerome Boateng scored his first ever goal for the German national team, a scorcher from 25 yards to put Germany ahead in the 8th minute. A missed penalty from Arsenal playmaker Mesut Ozil in the 13th minute proved inconsequential as Mario Gomez tapped in from close range two minutes before the interval to give Germany a deserved 2-0 lead heading into the break.

mario_gomezGermany and Poland registered contrasting 1-0 wins against Northern Ireland and Ukraine respectively to finish on 7 points each in Group C of the European Championships with the Germans narrowly condemning the Poles to second place courtesy of a marginally better goal difference 3 to 2.

Perhaps more crucially was the fact that an inspired showing in goal by Northern Ireland keeper Michael McGovern limited Germany to just a solitary goal, leaving the minnows with a goal difference of 0 and 3 points to show for their efforts. That means that in the stakes for the four best third placed teams, Northern Ireland are currently 2nd out of 3 behind Slovakia and ahead of Albania.

Brazilian television station Bandeirantes' journalists were slapped, kicked and targeted with racial slurs by Germany's fans during the Euro football championship here.

Two Brazilian journalists have claimed they were attacked and racially abused on Thursday. Cameraman Fernando de Henrique Oliveira said he was slapped and his colleague Sonia Blota was kicked while carrying out their duties for the TV station, reports Brazilian newspaper Estadao.
