International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) President Thomas Weikert said that he doesn't think China's dominance over the sport is something that they should be blamed for.

In the past seven editions since the sport debuted as one of the Olympic programmes in 1988, China have collected 24 out of 28 gold medals and swept at both Beijing 2008 and London 2012 most recently, reports Xinhua.

Olympic fencing champion Lei Sheng has been named China's flag-bearer at the Rio Olympic Games opening ceremony. 32-year-old Lei became China's first male foil Olympic champion four years ago in London. The fencer was also twice a world team titlist, reports Xinhua.

China's flag-bearers since the 1984 summer Olympic Games have been basketball players. Former NBA star Yi Jianlian was picked to carry the flag in London.

 

Jenny Lang Ping vowed, upon arrival at the Games Village here, to lead the Chinese women's volleyball team to "good results" at the upcoming Olympics.

Chinese athletes have arrived at Sao Paulo's Esporte Clube Pinheiros, the pre-games training centre of the Chinese Olympic delegation for the Rio Olympic Games.

According to the Chinese Olympic delegation, a total of 16 teams from the country will use the club in Brazil's most populous city to train and acclimatise ahead of the Games, scheduled to run from August 5-21. Considering the change in climate and jet lag from China, on-site training in Sao Paulo will be crucial for the performance of the athletes.
