Veteran Juventus defender Dani Alves has credited new Brazil coach Tite for boosting morale within the Selecao squad. Tite replaced Dunga as national team boss after Brazil's group phase elimination from the Copa America in June.

In the 55-year-old's first game in charge on Thursday, Brazil posted their first win in a World Cup qualifier in Quito, beating Ecuador 3-0.

Teenager Gabriel Jesus struck twice on his full international football debut and set up another goal as Brazil defeated 10-man Ecuador 3-0 in their 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifier.

Neymar scored the opener at the Estadio Olimpico by converting a 72nd-minute spot kick after Jesus was felled by goalkeeper Alexander Dominguez. Juan Carlos Paredes was sent off shortly after when he received a second yellow card for a challenge on Renato Augusto.

Uncapped Gremio centre-back Pedro Geromel was called up to Brazil's squad for their World Cup qualifiers against Ecuador and Colombia in September. The 30-year-old replaces Rodrigo Caio, who has been ruled out with a groin injury, the Brazilian football confederation said on Saturday.

Geromel has been one of the most consistent central defenders in Brazil's Serie A championship since his 2014 move from Spanish club Malaga.

Brazil's Olympic pole vault champion Thiago Braz da Silva has received a one kilogram gold bar from his former club as a reward for his triumph at the just concluded Rio Games.

The 22-year-old won Brazil's first ever Olympic pole vault gold medal beating France's defending champion Renaud Lavillenie with an Olympic record leap of 6.03 metres.

Former Brazil international midfielder Marcelinho Paraiba has joined local third-tier football side Ypiranga at the not-so-tender age of 41. Marcelinho signed with the Rio Grande do Sul-based side on Wednesday after being released by Brazilian Serie D club Inter de Lages.

"Hello fans, I'm Marcelinho Paraiba and I'm coming to Ypiranga to help the club get promoted to Serie B," Marcelinho said in a statement on Ypiranga's Facebook page.
