Spanish football club Atletico Madrid's coach Diego Simeone has said top club coaches like Pep Guardiola, Jose Mourinho among others should be allowed to manage their nations alongside their day jobs.

Simeone has long been linked with Argentina national team's job but Edgardo Bauza was recently named as the coach.

Argentine forward Cristian Espinoza has joined Deportivo Alaves on loan from Villarreal for the new season, the Spanish football club announced on Friday.

Alaves sporting director Sergio Fernandez said that only bureaucratic details were left before the player joins the team. The 21-year-old demonstrated his qualities in the Rio Olympic Games for his country.

Alaves gained promotion to La Liga last season.

 

Julian Redelinghuys will earn his first start for the Springboks against Argentina in Nelspruit on Saturday, while Bryan Habana, Johan Goosen, Oupa Mohoje and Lood de Jager all return to the side for the first Castle Lager Rugby Championship Test at the Mbombela Stadium.

Redelinghuys, capped four times, comes in at tighthead as replacement for the injured Frans Malherbe, who is struggling with a neck injury. Lock De Jager has recovered from the calf injury he sustained against Ireland in June and takes over the No 5 jersey from Pieter-Steph du Toit, who will provide cover from the bench.

Drag-flick dynamo Gonzalo Peillat fired a hat-trick as Argentina ended Germany's hopes of a third straight men's hockey title with a riveting 5-2 victory in the semi-final in Rio on Tuesday.

Peillat employed powerful flicks to the right of Germany goalkeeper Nicolas Jacobi in the ninth, 12th and 28th minutes in the first semi-final to help world No.7 Argentina reach the title clash for the first time.

Argentina came away with a 111-107 win over Brazil after second overtime at the Rio Olympics. Andres Nocioni led the Argentines with 37 points. Facundo Campazzo finished with 33 points and 11 assists. Nene had a team-high 24 points and 11 rebounds for Brazil here on Saturday.

"This is great. This is an eternal rivalry for us. What we did today was big," said Nocioni.

India's women's hockey team was crushed 5-0 by Argentina to suffer a fourth consecutive loss in Pool B and as a result failed to advance to the quarter-finals of the Olympic Games in Rio on Saturday. In the must-win game for both the teams, Argentina sealed the match in the second quarter which yielded them five goals in a mesmerising display of attacking hockey.

Martina Cavallero (16th and 29th minutes), Maria Granatto (23rd), Carla Rebecchi (26th) and Agustina Albertarrio (27th) scored for the world No.2 side.
