Money talks louder than anything else in football. Signing on bonuses and bumper wages are held in higher regard by players, as compared to emotions or even silverware at times. The past few years have seen clubs like Chelsea, Manchester City, Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain tasting success courtesy of splashing big bucks in the market. But now, Ligue 1 side AS Monaco look set to break all records with a massive bid for arguably one of the best players in the football world – Cristiano Ronaldo.

The French outfit are keen on being Ligue 1 title contenders this season after promotion from Ligue 2. With billionaire owner Dmitry Rybolovlev already having splashed more than £110 million on high profile names like Radamel Falcao, Joao Moutinho and James Rodriguez, the Russian has now set his sights on Real Madrid’s charismatic forward Cristiano Ronaldo.

It was a long and frustrating night for Fabio Capello and his men, as they travelled all the way to Lisbon only to be suffer a 1-0 defeat by an inspired Portugal side. Although only a single goal separated the two big teams of Group F, the game was by no means dull. The quality of the Russian side was well matched by an inspired display of football by Portugal in front of their home crowd.

This game was a must-win match for Portugal to keep their dream of World Cup qualification alive, and with Cristiano Ronaldo making it to the starting XI after shaking off a back injury, it was a huge boost for the Portuguese side, who were already missing Pepe through suspension. Cristiano Ronaldo has always been a Red Devil. Even four years after leaving Manchester United, CR7’s name is sung by the fans at Old Trafford. The player himself has publicly spoken about his desire one day to return to the club that made him. But when you have someone like Cristiano Ronaldo in your team, you don’t really want to let him go. At least that’s what Florentino Perez thinks. The Los Blancos president has said that he will pull out all stops to make sure that the Portuguese is a Real Madrid player next season and if possible for many seasons after that.

Manchester United had been passing lustful glances at their former No 7 for the past season and though no official inquiry had been made by the Red Devils, if a bid will transpire it’s evident that Ronaldo will not hesitate to sign the dotted line if his wage demands are met.

The Manchester United team that won the champions league in 2007-2008 season were one of the most attacking teams in recent history. The frontline of Carlos Tevez, Wayne Rooney and Cristiano Ronaldo regularly terrorised defences and scored at will. The telepathic understanding between Rooney and Ronaldo was one of the main facets of that Manchester United side that made their football not only efficient but extremely watchable. The memories of those two playing side by side in red have stayed fresh in many fans of, not only Manchester United, but football. One of those individuals appears to be Carlo Ancelotti, who is widely tipped to become the next Real Madrid coach.

Ancelotti reportedly wants to bring the England and Manchester United No 10 to Madrid along with him. Rooney, who is unsettled at Old Trafford despite scoring 12 goals and bagging 10 assists in 27 league appearances, is arguably in his prime at 27 and will be looking to play the next three years at a big club with a guaranteed starting spot. Given Gonzalo Higuain’s imminent departure, Los Blancos can offer him that opportunity.

Ramon Calderon, a former Real Madrid president, in an interview with talkSPORT revealed that Portuguese superstar Cristiano Ronaldo might leave Los Blancos in the summer owing to his unsatisfactory relationship with the current president Florentino Perez, and that he could be heading to one of the big spenders in the transfer market.

Talking about Perez, Calderon said “Cristiano Ronaldo said he was sad at the beginning of the season. I think the relationship with the current president is not a good one, maybe because the president doesn’t like the players he inherited. He did the same with Arjen Robben and Wesley Sneijder. It was unbelievable that when he came he decided to give them away.”

There has been a lot of speculation of superstar Cristiano Ronaldo leaving the Santiago Bernabeu at the end of the current season, because he just isn’t enjoying his football there quite as much anymore. A move to either French champions Paris St. Germain or a return to his beloved Manchester United who have a first option on the prolific attacker was believed to be on the cards. Chelsea though are now very much in the race for the extremely talented forward and want to include him in the deal to bring Jose Mourinho back to England.

Mourinho has reportedly been give a £100 million budget for summer transfers as the Blues attempt to end the Manchester duopoly and win the Premier League title next season. They are looking to bolster their attack and who better than arguably the best attacker in the world to do that with. The transfer if it were to happen, would cost the Blues a major part of their budget and will become the biggest transfer ever in the history of the League.

While announcing his decision to hang up his coaching boots, Sir Alex told the media how he was planning to leave Manchester United in the finest shape possible.
