World No.9 Rafael Nadal has confirmed he is fit and ready to make his debut at Brisbane International 2017 presented by Suncorp, which gets underway on Sunday 1 January.

Nadal, who missed the French Open and Wimbledon this year with a lingering wrist injury, recently came through the Spanish National Championships unscathed, competing in the doubles alongside his close friend and fellow Spaniard Marc Lopez.

Carlos Moya, a retired former world number one, has joined the coaching team of Rafael Nadal to guide the Spaniard along with Toni Nadal and Francis Roig.

Rafael said in a statement on Saturday that he feels great joy to announce that his compatriot Carlos has joined his coaching team.

The Rafa Nadal Academy is built across 24,000 square meters (258,000 sq. ft.) and is to combine tennis lessons with academics.

Spanish tennis star Rafael Nadal, who was unexpectedly eliminated from the Shanghai Masters after going down to Serbia's Viktor Troicki, admitted that he is not in his best physical shape.

At a news conference following the match on Wednesday, Nadal said: "I need to recover the forehand. I know I need to hit forehands."

Sydney is set for a blockbuster week of tennis in January, with world No.4 and 14-time Grand Slam champion Rafael Nadal (ESP) returning for FAST4 Showdown AUS v WORLD, while world No.1 Angelique Kerber (GER) and No.10 Dominic Thiem (AUT) will headline the Apia International Sydney.

Spanish great Nadal will be joined in the World team by world No.5 Kei Nishikori (JPN) to take on the Australian top 20 duo of Nick Kyrgios (ACT) and Bernard Tomic (Qld) at the new International Convention Centre (ICC), Darling Harbour on Monday 9 January 2017.

The trio completes the strongest men’s field in the tournament’s history with Spanish ace Rafael Nadal (ESP) and 2016 US Open champion Stan Wawrinka (SUI) both heading to Brisbane for the first time this summer.

Indian doubles specialists Leander Paes and Rohan Bopanna bowed out of the China Open tennis tournament here on Monday getting beaten in their respective men's double first round matches.

Bopanna and his Canadian partner Daniel Nestor were beaten by Spanish duo Rafael Nadal and Pablo Carreno 6-7, 4-6 while Paes and Germany's Andre Begemann lost to American-Australian duo of Jack Sock and Bernard Tomic 6-3, 5-7, [7-10].
