German Champions Bayern Munich relinquished top spot in the Bundesliga standings after losing 0-1 to Borussia Dortmund, while Cologne came from behind to beat Monchengladbach 2-1 in the 11th round of the Bundesliga on Saturday.

Bayern suffered their first loss of the season as Dortmund edged the German champions thanks to Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang's goal.

Former Bayern Munich and Manchester City striker Roque Santa Cruz, Paraguay's all-time leading scorer, has announced that the 2018 World Cup qualifiers against Peru and Bolivia in the next week would be his last appearances for the national football team.

The 35-year-old said on Tuesday, "With this call-up I am bringing to an end my time in the national team. It's a decision that's hard to take but had to be taken at some point...I think it's time to just dedicate myself to my club. I'm happy to retire at a time when I still feel good enough to play," added Santa Cruz, who currently plays for Olimpia club.

RB Leipzig are now equal on points with front runners FC Bayern Munich after beating Mainz 3-1 while FC Schalke 04 overpowered Werder Bremen by a similar scoreline thanks to a brace from Alessandro Schoepf to conclude the 10th round of matches in the German Bundesliga.

Bundesliga newcomers Leipzig continued their unbeaten run on Sunday to become the best promoted club since MSV Duisburg in 1997. The second placed "Bulls" are now in hot pursuit of front-runners Bayern, who still have a better goal difference, reports Xinhua news agency.

Bayern Munich booked a place in the knockout phase of the Champions League after beating PSV Eindhoven 2-1 on Tuesday, thanks to two goals by Polish striker Robert Lewandowski.

PSV were lucky to get the lead in the 14th minute. Santiago Arias was offside when he headed in, but the referee upheld it as the opening goal, after a header by Davy Propper was stopped by Bayern goalkeeper Manuel Neuer.

Title holders Bayern Munich advanced to the round of 16 after beating Augsburg 3-1, while Dortmund needed a penalty shootout to move 3-0 past lower league side Union Berlin during the second round of German Cup.

Carlo Ancelotti's men cruised to a 3-1 win on home soil, as goals from Philipp Lahm, Julian Green and David Alaba eliminated Augsburg from the competition on Wednesday.

Bayern Munich midfielder Renato Sanches has won the European Golden Boy award, given to the best footballer under 21 years of age. The Portuguese's performance that helped Portugal in winning Euro 2016 was the key element for him winning the award. He was named the best young player of Euro 2016.

The 19-year-old follows Wayne Rooney, Raheem Sterling, Lionel Messi, Sergio Aguero and Anthony Martial in winning the award. He beat England's Marcus Rashford and France's Kingsley Coman to the award.

Bayern Munich ended their two-game winless run with a dominating 2-0 win over Borussia Monchengladbach, while Hertha Berlin edged second placed Cologne courtesy Niklas Stark's 2-1 winner in the eighth round of the Bundesliga on Saturday.

Bayern established a three-point lead atop the standings owing to the first-half goals from Arturo Vidal and Douglas Costa.
