Manchester United on Friday announced that right-back Antonio Valencia has signed a contract which will keep him with the English football giants until June 2019, with the option to extend for a further year.

"Manchester United has been my life since 2009 and I am absolutely delighted to have signed a new contract. Wednesday evening provided the one trophy (Europa League) this club had never won and it was a true honour for me to captain the team for the final," the Colombian said in a statement posted on the club's website.

English Premier League (EPL) side Manchester United lifted the Europa League trophy with a 2-0 victory over Ajax Amsterdam in the final, also securing an automatic spot in next season's UEFA Champions League group phase.

Injury-riddled Man United finished a mere sixth in the EPL and had to hinge on winning the Europa League as only the league's top four could qualify for the Champions League.

Atletico Madrid striker Antoine Griezmann has dropped two major hints that he is preparing to leave the Spanish football club this summer.

The French international said in a TV interview in France on Monday night that there was a "six out of 10 chance" he could leave Atletico for Manchester United, and he followed that up with stronger declarations on Tuesday.

Cristiano Ronaldo contributed a brace as Real Madrid pounded Celta Vigo 4-1 in a Spanish top division football match. Wednesday night's outcome leaves Real Madrid needing only a draw against Malaga next weekend to claim the La Liga title.

Ronaldo put the visitors ahead 1-0 in the 10th minute, blasting the ball past Celta goalkeeper Sergio Alvarez after a pass from Isco Alarcon.

While insisting that he has "no reason to leave", Atletico Madrid forward Antoine Griezmann has said he wants to see what signings the club are able to make in the summer.

Speaking to the "El Larguero" radio show on Wednesday, Griezmann said: "I really like it here. Now Miguel Angel [chief executive Miguel Angel Gil Marin] must speak with my agent. I do not make plans for tomorrow. I remain at Atletico because I am happy, just the same as the day I joined. I want trophies, to win things - that is why I came here."

Manchester United coach Jose Mourinho has blamed the English Premier League (EPL) schedule for hindering the club's preparations for next Wednesdays Europa League final against Ajax Amsterdam.

Mourinho-coached United is set to play the last match of this season's EPL campaign at home with Crystal Palace on Sunday.
