German side FC Schalke has announced the signing of Algerian midfielder Nabil Bentaleb on loan from Tottenham, and French midfielder Benjamin Stambouli from Paris Saint-Germain on a four-year contract.

Schalke has the option to make 21-year-old Bentaleb's move permanent for 20 million euros ($22.6 million). The talented Algerian made just 11 appearances for Tottenham last season due to ankle and knee injuries. 26-year-old Stambouli meanwhile has joined for a reported eight million euros.

Tottenham Hotspur's star goalkeeper Hugo Lloris could miss the team's Champions League opener due to a hamstring injury that might keep him out for up to a month, the English club has confirmed.

"Following further assessment and scans of the left hamstring injury sustained by Hugo Lloris in the 1-1 draw at Everton on Saturday, we can confirm he is expected to be out of action for around four weeks," read a statement from the club on Tuesday.

Spurs will open their Champions League campaign on either September 13th or 14th. Besides the Champions League group match, Lloris will probably miss the league games against Crystal Palace, Liverpool and Stoke.


Newly-signed Manchester United star Paul Pogba will be suspended for the club's opening English Premier League football game of the season against Bournemouth on Sunday, according to the English Football Association. The midfielder joined United from Juventus for a world record transfer fee £89 million on Tuesday.

There was speculation he could make his debut against Bournemouth despite taking a holiday in the United States following France's Euro 2016 final defeat to Portugal and only starting pre-season training this week.

Tottenham Hotspur Manager Mauricio Pochettino is considering highly-rated Espanyol goalkeeper Pau Lopez as one for the future at the football club, according to the Daily Mail.

Espanyol are open to offers for some of their players but are keen to hold on to Lopez who was called up to the Spain national squad for a friendly in May.

Uruguayan Diego Godin led Atletico Madrid to a 1-0 victory against Tottenham Hotspur in the first friendly of the Spanish football club's Australian tour.

Atletico, just a day and a half after landing in Melbourne, showed good form, making only three changes during the game as their team kept its identity, defensive reliability and enjoyed the maximum return on their chances against a Tottenham side which had chances aplenty but stumbled into a very much in-form goalkeeper in Slovenian Jan Oblak.

Spain and Atletico Madrid star striker Fernando Torres believes that Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino is doing a "great job", adding that he is convinced that the club will win the English Premier League title soon. Spurs finished 11 points off the top last season despite being Leicester City's closest title rivals for the majority of the campaign.

The former Chelsea and Liverpool striker, who will face Tottenham in the International Champions Cup on July 29 in Australia, said Spurs will only continue to improve under Pochettino's guidance.

The all-star International Champions Cup (ICC) featuring three of Europe's biggest football clubs begins in Melbourne this weekend, however local football fans have failed to buy into the hype. Juventus, Atletico Madrid and Tottenham Hotspur are set to feature in the ICC at the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) over the next fortnight, in what is billed as a showcasing "Europe's best" to Australian football fans.

However Juventus' decision to leave 13 of their best players at home has underlined the true nature of the tournament - a glorified series of friendly fixtures - and Australians have been reluctant to purchase tickets which are selling for up to $160.
