The star-studded Spanish tennis squad arrived in New Delhi on Monday ahead of their Davis Cup World Group play-off tie against India.

The Spanish squad, which includes the likes of 14-time Grand Slam winner Rafael Nadal and World No.13 David Ferrer, got down to business straight away after landing in the capital in the morning, taking to the courts at the DLTA complex for a practice session in evening.

Indian tennis ace Rohan Bopanna has withdrawn from the upcoming Davis Cup tie against Spain in Delhi due to a knee injury he sustained at the US Open last week.

The veteran doubles specialist, who was expected to partner Leander Paes in the doubles tie on Saturday, 17th September, requested AITA to consider his request for a two week break from the sport.

Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) President Angel Maria Villar has announced his decision to withdraw from the race for the European football governing body UEFA's presidency.

"While I have received a great amount of support to continue my campaign, after a profound reflection I have decided to withdraw my bid," Villar said in a statement posted on the Spanish football federation's website on Tuesday, reports Sputnik.

Spain will bring its strongest possible tennis squad including 14-time Grand Slam champion Rafael Nadal and World No.13 David Ferrer to face hosts India in a Davis Cup World Group Play-off tie.

World No.5 Nadal, who on Monday shockingly crashed out of the US Open in the fourth round, will headline a strong squad also including doubles specialists Feliciano Lopez and Marc Lopez, coach Conchita Martinez said on Tuesday.

San Antonio Spurs and Spain basketballer Pau Gasol says he has never given up on the idea of representing his nation where he has always felt loved.

In a publicity event held on Monday, Gasol said: "My idea of playing with the national team remains the same. The approach will be to take each year as it comes, analyse how my body adapts to the workload and see how I feel at the end of the season."

Diego Costa, David Silva and Alvaro Morata each scored twice as Spain demolished Liechtenstein 8-0 in the opening Group G qualifier for the 2018 football World Cup.
