Captain Parthiv Patel's 90 lifted Gujarat to 291 for six in their first innings as they took a crucial 63-run lead over defending champions Mumbai on the second day of the Ranji Trophy cricket final on Wednesday.

Apart from the seasoned left-hander, Manprit Juneja scored 77 as the duo shared a 120-run stand for the fourth wicket to help Gujarat move past record champions Mumbai's first innings total of 228 all out.

Defending champions Mumbai are eyeing their record-stretching 42nd Ranji Trophy title when they face Gujarat in the summit clash at the Holkar Cricket Stadium on Tuesday.

Mumbai have won the premier domestic cricket competition 41 out of 45 appearances in the final. The last time they lost in the final was to Haryana in 1990-91. Mumbai are the overwhelming favourites for the trophy this time too as they have lost just twice in 61 matches against Gujarat, the last loss being in 1977-78.

NCR Punjab Royals dictated terms on Day 4 of the second edition of the Pro Wrestling League (PWL) as they beat Mumbai Maharathi 4-3 at the K.D. Jadhav Indoor Stadium in Delhi on Thursday.

Mumbai had an early advantage as they won the toss and decided to block the 53 kg women's category, thus preventing the dangerous Odunayo Folasade Adekuoroye from contesting the tie. Punjab blocked the 74 kg men's category, as Mumbai's Jabrayil Hasanov had to sit out as well.

Defending champions Mumbai sealed their semi-final berth in the Ranji Trophy cricket competition after defeating Hyderabad by 30 runs in their quarter-final tie at the Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Stadium in Raipur on Tuesday.

Chasing a modest 231, Hyderabad failed before a clinical bowling display from veteran all-rounder Abhishek Nayar (5/40) and promising left-arm spinner Vijay Gohil (5/64) to be skittled out for 201 in their second innings.

A superb bowling performance coupled with a decent effort with the bat gave Mumbai the upper hand on the third day of their Ranji Trophy quarter-final against Hyderabad on Sunday. Resuming their first innings at the overnight score of 167/3, Hyderabad could add only 113 runs to their total before being all out.

Opener Tanmay Agarwal was the highest scorer among the Hyderabad batsmen with a patient 82. Medium-pacer Abhishek Nayar led the Mumbai charge with figures of 4/60. Left-arm spinner Vijay Gohil helped clear up the tail-enders for figures of 3/59.

Riding on middle-order batsman Siddhesh Lad's (101 not out) unbeaten ton, Mumbai reached 250/5 at stumps on the opening day of their Ranji Trophy quarter-final cricket clash against Hyderabad at the Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Stadium on Friday.

At stumps, senior all-rounder Abhishek Nayar (46 not out) was at the crease with centurion Siddhesh.
