John Obi Mikel and Aminu Umar sent Denmark packing while getting Nigeria into the semi-finals of the Olympic men's football tourney with a solid 2-0 victory that puts them on the road to a collision with Germany.

Chelsea midfielder Obi Mikel grabbed the lead for Nigeria 16 minutes into the match at Fonte Nova Stadium here on Saturday, and Umar, a striker for the Turkish club Osmanlispor, added the finishing touch.

Canada are perfect with nine points following a 2:1 win over Germany at the Rio 2016 Women's Olympic Football Tournament. Melissa Tancredi scored both Canada goals as the 9 August win clinched first place in Group F.

As winners of Group F, Canada will return to São Paulo to face France in the Rio 2016 Olympic Quarterfinals on Friday 12 August at 19.00 local. The two sides, of course, were opponents at the London 2012 Olympic Games when Canada won bronze with a 1:0 win on a last-minute Diana Matheson goal. The Rio 2016 Quarterfinals will be broadcast live in Canada at 18.00 ET / 15.00 PT.

India's hockey team conceded a goal barely three seconds from the final hooter to lose 2-1 to Germany in its second match of the pool phase in the Olympic Games in Rio on Monday. Christopher Ruhr deflected the ball from close range in the dying moments as Germany earned a crucial win in a Pool B match that India deserved a point from.

Niklas Wellen scored in the 18th minute to give the two-time defending champions the lead before Rupinder Pal Singh (23rd) brought India level with his third goal in two matches.

After registering India’s first victory since the 2004 Athens Olympics, the PR Sreejesh-led team will take on the reigning Olympic Champions Germany in a match that promises to be an exciting encounter on August 8, 2016.

Against Germany, India held their nerve at the FIH Champions Trophy where they had an early lead of 3-1 until the third quarter but a few defensive errors in the last quarter had forced a draw. It was an inspired performance by the Indian team though Germany was not playing its full squad in London.
