The Daily Mail predict that the unthinkable could occur at Arsenal as Arsene Wenger is rumoured to be eyeing Napoli star Edinson Cavani. The veteran manager has spoken of the need to fill the void left by Robin van Persie with a top quality centre-forward but the thought of Wenger splashing in excess of £30m for a player has raised quite a few eyebrows. The added intrigue is provided by the fact that Chelsea were behind the Uruguayan all summer long, finally conceding defeat after he signed a new five-year deal with the Italians which takes his contract up to 2017.

But Wenger reportedly sent chief scout Steve Rowley on a mission to watch the striker from close quarters and he certainly wasn’t disappointed as Cavani scored an incredible four goals in Napoli’s 4-2 victory over Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk in the Europa League.

Arsene Wenger has once again initiated contract talks with Theo Walcott according to the Mirror as Arsenal look to resolve the deadlock before the winter window opens. Walcott has rejected Arsenal’s offers so far, reportedly turning down a £80k-a-week deal. It is unlikely that Arsenal will significantly increase their offer and the only hope of the deadlock being broken is if a compromise can be reached. The 23 year old holds the leverage in the negotiations as a host of big names are strongly interested in his services.

The Telegraph report that Chelsea remain one of those interested parties, even sending a scout to watch the player last night when he setup two goals in Arsenal’s 3-3 draw against Fulham. The Blues are looking at a January deal for the winger although Wenger might block a move to his cross-town rivals.

Managerial rivalries are a commonplace in the world of football and Arsene Wenger knows a thing or two about contentious rivalries, enjoying legendary clashes with everyone from Sir Alex Ferguson to Jose Mourinho. The veteran Frenchman has had a frosty relationship with Mark Hughes too, with the ex-Man United legend ruffling Wenger’s feathers from his time at Blackburn Rovers. And, ‘Sparky’ has put the kibosh on Wenger’s rumoured plan to raid Loftus Road for Adel Taarabt.

The Sun report that the most talented member of Queens Park Rangers’ struggling squad has been linked with a move across London, specifically to the Emirates. QPR are accustomed to exit talk surrounding the Moroccan by now as he has constantly been linked with bigger clubs ever since the club gained promotion. But the Hoops have managed to hold on to the 23 year old despite their fight for safety and Hughes is well aware that the attacker’s form will have a direct impact on their chances of survival.

Reading’s return to the Premier League hasn’t gone according to plan as the Royals are languishing in the relegation zone and more damagingly are yet to record a victory this season. But the Mirror reports that their Russian owner Anton Zingarevich has identified the quick-fix solution to their woes- Andrey Arshavin. Most fans might be forgiven for assuming that the Russian star wasn’t a part of Arsenal’s setup anymore but the diminutive attacker has appeared in the Capital One Cup and has also made a few Premier League substitute appearances in recent weeks.

But his Arsenal future is still in doubt, especially as his contract expires at the end of the season and Arsene Wenger is looking to clearout the deadweight from his squad. Lukas Podolski has the left-wing spot tied down and although the summer signing has spoken about his desire to play down the middle the manager isn’t likely to move him away from the wide berth anytime soon.

The prolonged Ashley Cole contract saga has taken a fresh twist after it emerged that Carlo Ancelotti had contacted the defender over a possible move to PSG. Le 10 Sport in France believe that Cole’s ex-manager retains a strong interest in taking the left-back to Paris, making PSG the front-runners in the heated battle for his services. Cole’s contract at Chelsea expires at the end of the season but he is unwilling to sign only a year’s extension, which has in turn fuelled the flames surrounding his possible exit in January.

If Chelsea fail to sort the 31 year old's future by December he will be free to sign a pre-contract agreement with any club from January onward and eventually leave for free in the summer. Manchester United and Real Madrid have also been linked with the ex-Arsenal man but the feeling within Stamford Bridge is that Cole is willing to stay at the club provided he is awarded a longer contract.

Roman Abramovich has finally realized that vast amounts of transfer fees aren’t likely to guarantee success on the pitch or that is what the Mirror are leading us to believe, citing that the Chelsea oligarch considers the £46-rated Radamel Falcao a tad expensive. The Colombian’s asking fee is still less than what Chelsea paid Liverpool for Fernando Torres though and despite the biggest deal in English football being translated into a mere 11 Premier League goals since 2011, Chelsea are fully behind Torres.

This could explain the motive behind their search for a support striker rather than a leading star like Falcao, with Marseille’s Loic Remy and Porto’s Jackson Martinez said to be the intended targets. Remy is a known quantity in the English circles as the Frenchman has been linked with a host of clubs in the past, including Chelsea and Tottenham. The 25 year old was heavily linked with a move to Stamford Bridge in the summer and the Blues could get their man in January, provided they meet Marseille’s valuation of £15m.

Klaas-Jan Huntelaar has been on a journey through Europe’s big leagues seeking salvation and validation of his talents. After stints at Ajax, Real Madrid, AC Milan and Schalke the Dutchman could end up at Anfield in the winter, provided Liverpool’s powerbrokers do not mess up the transfer deal. ESPN reports that the Reds have zeroed-in on Huntelaar to solve their attacking troubles, with their over-reliance on Luis Suarez once again highlighted against Newcastle United on Sunday.

Liverpool have been boosted by the fact that the 29 year old has rejected Schalke’s offer for an extension to his current deal which expires at the end of the season. £6m is all it could take to force the Germans into parting with their leading striker, who topped the Bundesilga charts last season with 29 goals and an astonishing 48 strikes in all competitions.
