The US won a second consecutive game by a slim margin, beating France 100-97 for a perfect 5-0 record in the preliminary round of the men's basketball tournament at the Rio Olympics.

Despite being without Tony Parker, France clawed back from 15-point deficit to close up to three points on a beat-the-buzzer three-pointer from Antoine Diot on Sunday. Trailing 80-65 with 1:25 to go in the third quarter, Michael Gelabale capped a 14-3 run for France with a fast-break four minutes into the fourth to make it 83-79.

Canada’s Women’s National Team will face France in the quarter-final knockout round of the Rio 2016 Olympic Football Tournament 12 August at 19:00 local (18:00 ET/15:00 PT) at Arena Corinthians in Sao Paulo, Brazil. The winner will go on to the semi-final and guarantee their team a chance to play for an Olympic medal, and make Olympic football history.

Impressive wins over FIFA Women’s World ranked number five Australia, number ninety-three Zimbabwe and number two Germany in the group stage, Canada was the only team to secure top spot in its Olympic group with a perfect nine points, making history in the process, and earning a berth in the Sao Paulo Quarterfinal match.

Wins over Spain and France on the opening day of the Rugby Sevens tournament at the Olympics in Rio de Janeiro confirmed Team South Africa's credentials as medal contenders in a day highlighted by upsets, as rugby returned to the Games for the first time in 92 years.

Team South Africa opened their pool B campaign against Spain with a 24-0 win, before a commanding first half saw then ease into a 26-0 win over France, to top pool B after Day One. With two wins, South Africa confirmed their continued presence in the medal section of the tournament, as the win secured them a place in the quarterfinals, to be played on Wednesday.

Canada’s Women’s Rugby Sevens Olympic team will be playing for a medal in the 2016 Summer Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro after advancing to the semifinals in rugby sevens following a 15-5 win over France in the quarterfinals. Canada will face Australia in the semifinals, the top ranked team in the world.

After coming away with two victories on day one action at Deodoro stadium in Rio, Canada dropped their final pool match on Sunday, a 22-0 loss to Great Britain. The loss meant Canada finished second in Pool C, setting up the quarterfinal tilt with France later on Sunday.

The U.S. Women's football team took control of Group G with a 1-0 defeat of France thanks to Carli Lloyd's 63rd minute game-winning goal and another strong defensive performance at Mineirão Stadium in its second match of the 2016 Olympic Games.

In a battle between the two favorites to advance from Group G, the USA edged France on Lloyd's opportunistic goal that was a product of a nice bit of offensive play from the U.S. that culminated in Tobin Heath's shot being saved and then rebounding off the left post into Lloyd's path and the FIFA World Player of the Year made no mistake in putting the chance away to give the USA an important three points.

Mustapha Zouaoui, one of those involved in the sex tape blackmail case of French footballer Mathieu Valbuena, has exonerated Real Madrid forward Karim Benzema from taking any part in the plot, and admitted that he was the one who got Benzema implicated in the case.

In an interview conducted on July 24 and published by L'Equipe on Monday, Zouaoui revealed that Benzema did not want to harm his national teammate. Zouaoui admitted that he was the one who revealed to Benzema in September 2015 that there was a sex tape in his possession of Valbuena and his wife.
