SSC Napoli finished runners up in Serie A, albeit by a considerable margin of nine points to winners Juventus. But they were the team which scored the maximum number of goals in Serie A last season, and were incredibly entertaining to watch, making them the neutral’s favourites. They owe that honour predominantly to one Edinson Cavani.

The Uruguayan has been an integral part of the Napoli squad ever since his arrival from Palermo in 2010 for £20 million. He has regularly got onto the scoresheet, owing to his incredible shot accuracy, ball control and excellent presence of mind in the opposition box. In addition to all of these, his aerial ability is more than decent. He has 38 goals in just 43 matches for Napoli this season, 29 of which have come in the league (notably almost half of his team’s goals). This proves without a doubt that he is an integral part of the team, who simply wouldn’t know what to do in his absence.

The Special One arrives to seal Chelsea deal, Dzeko and Jovetic on wanted list

Jose Mourinho ended his tumultuous 3-year reign at Real Madrid after the club’s last La Liga game over the weekend and the Portuguese flew in to London last night to complete the formalities to take over as the next Chelsea manager. The Telegraph report that a formal announcement of his appointment can be accepted in the next couple of days while Mourinho plots his summer transfer targets. Mourinho is reportedly planning a double striker swoop for Manchester City’s Edin Dzeko and Fiorentina’s Stevan Jovetic which could throw the future of Fernando Torres into limbo.

Real Madrid to make world record bid for Bale

Cristiano Ronaldo became the world’s most expensive player when he made the switch from Manchester United to Real Madrid 4 years ago for £80million. But the Portuguese could soon be usurped from this thrown by Gareth Bale as the Metro report that the Los Blancos are planning a world record£95million offer to lure the Welshman to the Bernabeu this summer. Meanwhile, Tottenham are desperate to keep hold of the double Footballer of the Year and are prepared to deny him any transfer this summer even if he declines the club’s new and improved contract.

Pellegrini confirms City talks to start soon

Manuel Pellegrini has confirmed that he is set to initiate talks with Manchester City soon and will listen to the offers on the table. Pellegrini managed his last game of the season with Malaga and has already confirmed his exit from the La Liga side. I have an agreement to start conversations with Manchester City. Now the league is over we will start from Monday to look forward and to see where my future lies. Some rumours will be right, others won't, but I have kept my focus on Malaga until now.”

Fabregas set for talks with Vilanova as Big Four snoop around

As Premier League’s Big Four- Arsenal, Manchester United, Manchester City and Chelsea, prepare their summer transfer lists, Cesc Fabregas is ready for crunch talks with manager Tito Vilanova over his Barcelona future. The Daily Mail reports that Neymar’s arrival at Camp Nou has thrown Fabregas’ future in doubt and the Spaniard wants reassurances about his role at the club. The recent years in competitive football have seen the emergence of a number of cash rich clubs. This has especially prompted the other “lesser” sides to resort to swapping players, to make up for the cash deficit and also ensure contentment for all parties concerned. According to The Daily Mail, the latest club to rely upon such desperate means for cost cutting is Chelsea. The West London side are hoping to reduce their expenses by offering the misfiring-at-times Fernando Torres (plus a fair bit of cash) to Napoli for their Uruguayan forward Edinson Cavani.

Chelsea’s proposal could also be fuelled by an interest to remove Manchester City from the race to bag Cavani's signature. The Manchester side are ready to offer Edin Dzeko to facilitate a move for Cavani. However, with Rafael Benitez having signed up as the Serie A side’s manager, an offer for Torres might top any other, with both the Spaniards being at ease working with each other.

Manchester United, Manchester City, PSG and Barcelona are the other clubs willing to pay £80million for the highly sought-after Welshman but Real Madrid remain optimistic that they head the queue for the Spurs star. Suarez to Madrid rumours gathering pace

Luis Suarez has done little to quell the growing rumours surrounding his departure from Liverpool and the Mirror report that Real Madrid are now prepared to offer the Uruguayan £140,000-a-week four year contract. Suarez told the press that the time was right for a ‘change in environment’ and Madrid now have to eek out a deal with Liverpool, who are holding out for £40m, although the Spaniards are offering only £20m with Jose Callejon as makeweight.

Arsenal hold the aces in Fabregas saga

Man United’s pursuit of Cesc Fabregas ultimately depends on Arsenal reports the Daily Mail, as the Gunners had a couple of smart clauses inserted into the Spaniard’s contract when he moved to Barcelona. Barca supposedly owe Arsenal 50% of the transfer fee on top the usual ‘right to refusal’ clause, which makes it hard for United to land their man. The Mirror reports that the 26 year old will sit down for a round of talks with manager Tito Vilanova next week to decide his future.
