Luis Suarez celebrated his new contract with two goals, but Lionel Messi and Andres Iniesta were the stars as Barcelona confirmed they have turned the corner in question of form with a 4-1 win at home against local rivals Espanyol.

Iniesta and Messi were outstanding in helping to pull apart an Espanyol side which had gone to the Camp Nou after conceding just one goal in almost 600 minutes football and were unfortunate to lose goalkeeper, Diego Lopez through injury after 52 minutes.

Bayern Munich beat Atletico Madrid by a 1-0 margin with centre-forward Robert Lewandowski scoring the winner in a Champions League group stage match. Atletico failed to become the seventh team to conclude the group stage with a perfect record as Lewandowski's free kick ensured Bayern Munich's 15th straight win on home soil in the Champions League on Tuesday.

The hosts grabbed the reins from the kick-off and pressed Atletico into defence. Nevertheless, it was the visitors who worked out the first opportunities as Yannick Ferreira-Carrasco tested Bayern goalkeeper Manuel Neuer twice in the opening period.

Bayern Munich coach Carlo Ancelotti has said that Atletico Madrid are one of Europe's best teams and stressed that games against the Spanish football club are important whatever the circumstances.

In a press conference held on Monday, the eve of Bayern's final Champions League group stage game against Atletico at the Allianz Arena, Ancelotti said that he will introduce rotation among his players to get the best out of fresh starters.

Atletico Madrid managed to maintain their fourth position on La Liga football standings after a 3-0 away victory against Osasuna at El Sadar stadium in a 13th round match.

Diego Godin scored the first goal in the 36th minute from a corner executed by Koke Resurreccion on Sunday. Frenchman Kevin Gameiro scored the second goal just 11 minutes later after a through ball from Angel Correa.

A hat-trick from Portuguese superstar Cristiano Ronaldo powered Real Madrid to a 3-0 win against local rivals Atletico de Madrid at the Vicente Calderon Stadium.

The solid victory saw Real Madrid in the lead at halftime 1-0 as Rolando scored in the 22nd minute of the game. The second half saw a hotly argued penalty awarded against Stefan Savic for a perceived foul against Cristiano, who made perfect use of the opportunity with a low, swift shot into the net that didn't give Oblak any chance.

Atletico Madrid forward Kévin Gameiro said on Friday that his team was doing well and feeling ready to play the La Liga football derby on Saturday against Real Madrid, noting the enthusiasm of the Rojiblancos.

"We are doing well and are ready. We are eager to play this match so we can win it," said the French forward in an interview published on the club's website on Saturday.
