Arsene Wenger is out shopping for a new Goalkeeper and has identified Portuguese first choice stopper Rui Patricio as his primary target. talkSPORT claim that an initial bid of £8.5 million for Patricio from the Gunners has been rejected by his current club Sporting Lisbon this week, with the Gunners asked to improve their offer significantly if they are serious about signing the young superstar.

Arsenal’s current no.1 goalkeeper Wojciech Szczeny has had a mixed season and his Polish counterpart Lukasz Fabianski hasn’t been able to cement his place as a first team regular either.

Asmir Begovic, one of the most sought-after goalkeepers in the Premier League, has admitted that he is "flattered” by the interest shown in him by top English clubs, but is committed to playing for Stoke City and wants to do his bit for them by helping them win laurels.

Begovic, who turns 26 this June, has to his credit a number of outstanding performances in the Premier League over the last couple of seasons, and has drawn the attention of Manchester United, Chelsea and Arsenal in recent transfer windows. But the Bosnian has ended all speculations of a potential move away from the Britannia Stadium in the near future, reasserting his commitment to Stoke.

It is heartbreak time at the Emirates Stadium. Two teams at different ends of the Premier League table collide with the destinies of four clubs intertwined on this one fixture. Arsenal need three points for Champions league Football, Wigan needs three points for survival in the top flight of English Football, at least one of them is going to walk away with a long face and gloomy eyes in the hopes of doing well next season. Both Arsenal and Wigan have everything to play for following their narrow victories in a never before scenario. Arsenal had never won at Loftus Road and Wigan did the impossible by beating 10 man Manchester City at the weekend. The momentum is with Wigan but the betting odds are favouring the North London club.

The intensity of this clash truly makes this nothing short of a David vs Goliath encounter but unless the Gods of football are favouring the Latics, the Gunners should cruise through this encounter and take their battle for Champions League football down to Newcastle for the final game of the season.

Rooney booed at Sir Alex’s home farewell as striker hands transfer request

Sir Alex Ferguson bowed out at Old Trafford with a victory against Swansea that also marked the last home game for midfielder Paul Scholes. But the biggest surprise of the night was reserved for the post match interview when the Manchester United manager confirmed that Wayne Rooney had handed in a transfer request. The striker was visibly booed by a section of the supporters when he collected his winner’s medal. Rooney was not even included in the matchday squad and this puts his United career in fresh doubts but Ferguson insisted that the 27-year old will not be sold. The Metro quotes Ferguson’s interview as, “I don’t think Wayne was keen to play, simply because he has asked for a transfer. I think he wants to think it through in his mind – I think that’s a good idea. We’re not going to let him go. I think maybe he is a bit frustrated. He has been taken off once or twice in the past couple of weeks.”

Wayne Rooney’s future at Old Trafford seems to be over for sure. He was left out of Manchester United’s match against Swansea today - Sir Alex Ferguson’s last home game before retirement, which unsurprisingly increased speculation of a move away from the club this summer. The forward was also in for some show of disgust by United fans when he was jeered while collecting his Premier League medal in the post match ceremony at Old Trafford.

This could be Rooney’s last Premier League medal with United, and it seemed to be written all over his actions this evening. After collecting his medal, he was seen fooling around casual, breaking into a superficial embrace with Sir Alex. Even during the celebrations, large sections of the Old Trafford crowd refrained from cheering him when he raised the trophy aloft an action which Rooney himself seemed to be carrying out half-heartedly.
