Five-time Ballon d'Or winner Lionel Messi was recalled to Argentina's football squad for its 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Brazil and Colombia next month. Messi has not played for the national team since scoring in the 1-0 home win over Uruguay on September 1. The 29-year-old returned from a groin injury last Saturday, scoring in Barcelona's 4-0 La Liga victory over Deportivo La Coruna at the Camp Nou.

He followed that performance with a sublime hat-trick as Barcelona routed Manchester City 4-0 in the Champions League on Wednesday. With these performances, he proved his fitness and was named in the squad declared on Friday.

The Liverpool duo of Roberto Firmino and Philippe Coutinho, Chelsea's Willian and Manchester City's Fernandinho have all been included in the Brazilian squad that will host Argentina in Belo Horizonte on November 10 before travelling to Lima for a clash against Peru five days later.

Injured Real Madrid midfielder Casemiro is also expected to be given until the last minute to prove his fitness for Brazil's 2018 football World Cup qualifiers against Argentina and Peru next month. Casemiro was among 24 footballers named by Brazil coach Tite on Friday for the team's final appearances this year. The former Sao Paulo player has not played since fracturing a fibula in Real Madrid's 2-0 victory over Espanyol in La Liga last month.
