Virat Kohli, arguably the greatest batsman in world cricket today, showed just why he is so deserving of that moniker, as he scored an incredible second century of the IPL season, and more importantly ended on the winning side this time as the Royal Challengers Bangalore beat the Rising Pune Supergiants by 7 wickets with 3 balls to spare in an entertaining contest in the 4pm start on Saturday.

Having put the Rising Pune Supergiants in to bat on winning the toss, RCB produced the shoddiest fielding display of the season - dropping catches, missing stumpings, players letting balls slip between them fingers and even go through their legs, allowing the Supergiants to post a competitive total of 191-6 in their 20 overs.

The Rising Pune Supergiants breathed some much needed life into their campaign, picking up just their third win of the season, beating the Delhi Daredevils by 7 wickets in their own den.

A much changed Delhi side, minus their inspirational skipper Zaheer Khan, star wicketkeeper batsman Quinton de Kock and allrounder Chris Morris, struggled to genuinely compete with the Rising Pune Superigants, posting a rather ordinary total of 162-7 in their 20 overs after having been put in to bat.

Another fantastic captain's knock from Rohit Sharma made it three wins on the trot for the defending IPL champions, the Mumbai Indians, who registered a comfortable 8 wicket win over the Rising Pune Supergiants in this season's first Maharastra derby.

Rather predictably, the Mumbai Indians put Pune in to bat on winning the toss, and made a bright start, Mitchell McClenaghan removing Ajinkya Rahane for 4 in just the second over. Pune fought back with 84 run stand between Saurabh Tiwary (57) and Steven Smith (45) for the second wicket with the former anchoring the innings, while the latter went after the bowling, scoring at a strike rate very near the 200 mark.

A thrilling contest in Pune went down to the last ball, and India's super skipper MS Dhoni's legendary touch for dramatic wins appears to be deserting him this season as the Rising Supergiants lost yet again with birthday boy James Faulkner hitting the winning runs off the final ball of the match, narrowly escaping getting out on consecutive deliveries as Pune spurned a run out opportunity and then Faulkner pulled a short delivery from Thisara Perera past the diving Steve Smith who could only watch in vain as his maiden T20 century failed to guide Pune to a much needed win.

The Gujarat Lions, top of the IPL standings, won the toss and asked Pune to have a bat. Saurabh Tiwary, given an opportunity to open the batting by Pune, was run out for 1, beaten to the stumps by the diving Suresh Raina, Jonty Rhodes style ala the 1992 World Cup.

Rising Pune Supergiants announced today the signing of left-handed top order batsman Usman Khawaja to the squad. The team management announced that South African Faf du Plessis, who played a pivotal role in Pune’s batting line-up, has sustained an injury to his finger during the course of the last match and has returned to South Africa for treatment. In 6 matches so far this season, Du Plessis scored 206 runs with 2 half centuries.

Stephen Fleming, Coach, Rising Pune Supergiants, said, “One of our mainstays Faf du Plessis has injured his finger during the course of the last match and has returned to South Africa for further treatment. We wish him a speedy recovery. We are glad to have roped in Usman Khawaja in the team."

"His presence will definitely be an advantage to the team and could be pivotal in bolstering the position of the side in the tournament. His imperious form for the Sydney Thunders in the Big Bash League victory last season and being the leading run-scorer for Australia, for the recently-concluded World T20, has made us sit up and notice. His style of play is perfect for the T20 format."

The Rising Pune Supergiants got back in the running in IPL Season 9, recording a long overdue win, beating the Sunrisers Hyderabad by 34 runs courtesy of the Duckworth Lewis method after rain denied the visitors a finish on the field of play at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Uppal.

The Supergiants dominated the game right from the off, winning the toss and putting the Sunrisers in to bat, before reducing them to 32-5 in the 9th over. The Sunrisers' super consistent skipper David Warner fell to a fresh Ashok Dinda for naught, and the middle order crumbled thereafter as Shikhar Dhawan watched the carnage from the other end.
