Spanish football giants Atletico Madrid President Enrique Cerezo said on Wednesday that midfielder Saul Ñiguez, whose performance at the Under-21 European Championship is rousing interest in other clubs, has a long term contract and is set to stay with Atletico.

Cerezo was speaking at the event to mark the renaming of the metro station outside Atletico's new Wanda Metropolitano Stadium.

There is "no reason to get too concerned" about Portuguese star Cristiano Ronaldo leaving Real Madrid, the Spanish football club president Florentino Perez said, adding that it may be too soon to make a bid for French club Monaco's wonder kid Kylian Mbappe.

"Cristiano has a contract with Madrid," Perez was quoted as saying by Spanish radio El Primer Palo.

If Wayne Rooney can accept a bit-part role as opposed to the mainstay he was at English football giants Manchester United a few years back, the English forward could have a future at the club, former United star Ryan Giggs said.

"Wayne is a proven goal scorer," Giggs told Sky Sports News. "Give him a chance, Wayne will score. It is whether he can put up with not being first choice or whether he can develop his game, which I had to around the same age -- not being certain to play every game, but playing 25-30 games and contributing."

English football club Manchester City are preparing a proposal to sign Vasco da Gama's Brazil under-20 midfielder Douglas, according to media reports.

The English Premier League (EPL) club sent a scout to watch the 19-year-old in Vasco's 1-0 victory over Atletico Goianiense in Brazil's Serie A championship on Sunday, according the Lance news portal.
