Everton Manager Ronald Koeman has praised his team for their performance after they held former champions Manchester United to a 1-1 draw in an English Premier League (EPL) match at the Goodison Park Stadium.

United took the lead a few minutes before half-time on Sunday when star striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic lobbed the ball over on-rushing Everton goalkeeper Maarten Stekelenburg. The hosts however, managed to rescue a point right at the end when they were awarded a penalty for Marouane Fellaini's clumsy challenge on Idrissa Gueye. Leighton Baines stepped up to fire home the penalty and earn a draw for Everton.

Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho was a disappointed man once again as he saw his Red Devils' held to a 1-1 draw by Everton at Goodison Park as a late penalty converted by Leighton Baines earned the home side a point on Sunday afternoon.

Mourinho, who has had to endure more than his fair share of draws since taking over the hot seat at Manchester United, said after the game, "We were the best team by far, but we didn't win. We had chances for a 2-0 and had the ball against the post and then we conceded a goal in the last minute. I notice my team trying always to play the 90 minutes in the same way, but that is not always possible because your opponent tries to react, which they did a little bit in the last 10 or 15 minutes.

Manchester United substitute Marouane Fellaini conceded a late penalty on his return to Goodison Park, one which Leighton Baines stepped up to convert, as Everton grabbed a draw against a Red Devils' side that were unlucky once again to drop points in a game they probably should have won.

Fellaini had been brought on in the 85th minute in a typical Jose Mourinho move to hang on to a lead, but ended up conceding a penalty for a foul on  Idrissa Gueye. Leighton Baines, who had seen David de Gea save his penalty in the past, powered this one past the Spanish international, despite him going the right way.

Chelsea's five-match winning streak may have sent a message to their rivals in the English football league but head coach Antonio Conte has downplayed it saying that it was rather a message to themselves.

Chelsea on Saturday thumped Everton 5-0 to move to the top of the English Premier League (EPL) here. Goals from Hazard (19th and 56th minutes), Marcos Alonso (20th), Diego Costa (42nd) and Pedro Rodriguez (65th minute) saw them earn their fifth in a row.

Chelsea attacker Eden Hazard was predictably in an ebullient mood yesterday after his twin strikes against Everton helped propel the Blues to a thumping 5-0 victory, one which took them to the top of the Premier League standings for 24 hours at the very least.

The Belgian winger, who struggled for form last season under Jose Mourinho, appears to have found a new lease of life under new Manager Antonio Conte and is particularly thriving in the 3-4-3 system, which allows him to play closer to lead striker Diego Costa, and not be responsible for providing the width down the left wing.
