Table Tennis Canada announces athletes for 2010 Commonwealth Games

Table Tennis Canada and Commonwealth Games Canada today confirmed the athletes and coaches named to Team Canada for the XIXth Commonwealth Games in Delhi, India from October 3-14.

Olympians Pradeeban Peter-Paul and Mo Zhang will guide a young Canadian team. Both are Pan American Games medalists (2007, Rio de Janeiro), have previous Commonwealth Games experience (2006, Melbourne) and have also both recently won the North American Championships.

CWG Delhi 2010 to ensure efficient Cleaning and Waste Management at the Games

The Organising Committee Commonwealth Games 2010 Delhi has made elaborate arrangements to ensure efficient Cleaning and Waste Management, which will facilitate smooth functioning of all the venues during Delhi 2010.

To ensure the primary collection of waste across venues, the OC has engaged three cleaning vendors, to deal with an estimated 1,63,200 kg. of waste per day.

The three vendors - ISS, Sarvatra and A2Z Maintenance & Engineering Services - have been entrusted with the responsibility at the total cost of Rs. 21 crore through a global open tender process. The contract is for the period from August 1 to October 30, 2010.

Padukone, Kumble, Dravid among stars to welcome Queen’s Baton Relay to Bangalore

Some of the leading lights of Indian sports will welcome the Queen's Baton Relay for the XIX Commonwealth Games 2010 Delhi, which reaches Bangalore on September 2.

Among those who will participate in the relay are former Commonwealth Games badminton gold medalist and All-England champion Prakash Padukone, cricketing legends G.R. Vishwanath, Anil Kumble and Rahul Dravid, Karnataka's first Olympian Kenneth Powell, Dronacharya Award winning boxer Captain. M. Venu and tennis ace Mahesh Bhupathi.

Asian Games hockey gold medalist Sabu Varkey and Arjuna Awardees Chetan Baboor (table tennis), Nisha Millet (swimming), Reeth Abraham (athletics) and Ashwini Nachappa (athletics) will also be among those participating.

Squash Canada announces team for Commonwealth Games

Two-time defending Men's Open National Champion, Shahier Razik, and three-time Women's Open National Champion, Alana Miller, will lead a very talented group of Canadian squash players into Delhi, India in October for the 2010 Commonwealth Games. With squash not currently on the Olympic program, the squash competition at the Commonwealth Games is one of the top events on the international squash calendar with leading nations such as England, Australia and New Zealand sending their best players.

"I'd like to congratulate all of the squash athletes being named today and to welcome them to Team Canada," said Martha Deacon, Canada's Chef de Mission. "There is an excitement building as the 2010 Commonwealth Games draw nearer. I'm very much looking forward to cheering on our squash team as they compete against many of the world's best in Delhi."

Leisel Jones & Geoff Huegill to lead strong Australian Swim team to Delhi 2010 Commonwealth Games

The ACGA today announced the final list of swimmers for the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi (October 3-14) following last week's Pan Pacific Championships, with 31 members of the 52-strong team set to make their Commonwealth Games debut for Australia. Seven-time Commonwealth Games gold medallist Leisel Jones will join comeback sensation Geoff Huegill, and Ashley Callus who will be heading to his fourth Games, while Queensland teenagers Yolane Kukla and Jayden Hadler will be the youngest on the team.

Emily Seebohm, a dual silver and gold medallist at the Pan Pacific Championships in California last week will compete at her first Commonwealth Games, while Paralympian Matthew Cowdrey will be looking to add to his two gold medals from Melbourne 2006.
