Sprint star Collins backs ‘Sport your Trainers’

Commonwealth gold medalist Kim Collins has urged sports fans everywhere to Sport their Trainers on Commonwealth Day. The 100m sprinter, who won bronze at the 2011 World Championships in Daegu, took time out of his preparations for London 2012 to get behind the campaign which links Glasgow 2014 to taking steps to a healthier lifestyle.

"Physical activity is absolutely crucial to the health of a nation and I think campaigns like this are win-win. They encourage people to become more active and make them aware that the Commonwealth Games are coming," said Collins.

Commonwealth Games Federation President HRH Prince Imran visits Glasgow

The sports champion Prince who now heads the global Commonwealth Games movement believes Glasgow 2014 will be an outstanding festival of world-class sport after his first official visit to the city this week.

HRH Prince Imran from Malaysia, who was elected as President of the Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF) last November, met with Glasgow 2014's Organising Committee to hear how preparations for the Games are moving forward and to see the planning process which will ensure the successful delivery of the Games.

Coordinated approach agreed for Glasgow 2014 Ceremonies, Cultural Programme and Queen's Baton Relay

Glasgow 2014's landmark Opening and Closing Ceremonies, Cultural Programme and Queen's Baton Relay will be delivered in a seamless and consistent creative approach for the first time which promotes both Glasgow and Scotland to the world. The coordinated approach will deliver an unforgettable experience of the nation and city in the lead up to and during the Games. Recognising the importance of this programme, the Glasgow 2014 Board has tasked Board Member Eileen Gallagher OBE to Chair a Ceremonies, Culture and Queen's Baton Relay Steering Group.

With the Opening Ceremony on 23 July 2014 at Celtic Park expected to attract an international television audience of more than one billion, Glasgow has an opportunity to make a lasting impact across the world. This memorable experience will be replicated at the Closing Ceremony at Hampden Stadium 11 days later.

Glasgow 2014's first formal inspection starts today

The Organising Committee for the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games and its Games Partners have been joined by delegates from the Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF) for a four day intensive inspection of progress in all aspects of its preparations for the Games including venues, the Athletes' Village, Transport, Security and Safety and Workforce Planning.

The Co-ordination Commission, the five member panel conducting the inspection, is chaired by Bruce Robertson, CGF Vice President and Canadian CGA member, and is supported by a panel of technical advisors. This is the first inspection in a series of six with just over 1,000 days to go until the Games.

Jacqui Murdoch appointed as Director of Games Time Delivery at Glasgow 2014

Glasgow 2014 has appointed Jacqui Murdoch as Director of Games Time Delivery. Jacqui's role will involve overseeing the management of all Games Time Delivery functional areas, including ensuring the areas of Games Family Relations, Games Services, Sport, Venues and Athletes' Village and Volunteering are all developed and ready to be delivered in July 2014.

Originally from Australia, Jacqui brings with her over 20 years' experience of major international sporting events including Olympic, Paralympic and Commonwealth Games and World Championships.
