The International Olympic Committee (IOC) today announced sanctions against five athletes who participated in the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing for having committed anti-doping violations.

These athletes tested positive for CERA, a third generation of the endurance-enhancing hormone, EPO.

The samples were collected and tested at Games-time and were subject to further analysis earlier this year when a fully validated test to detect CERA became available. Originally, six athletes showed adverse analytical findings in their A samples. However, one athlete was not sanctioned due to the presence of CERA not being detected in her B sample.

All six athletes had the opportunity to be heard by an IOC Discipli

A forgotten India at the Paralympic Games

2008_olympics_1.jpgIt's quite disheartening to see that the second part of the Beijing summer extravaganza - the Paralympic Games have come and gone without even a whimper from the Indian media.

Granted that India's participation in the games is limited to a mere five individuals and none of them have won medals in their respective categories, but surely the Paralympics are events where at the risk of sounding clichéd - all participants are winners.

Barring a mention or two of the grand opening ceremony on 6th September, this event featuring more than 4000 heroes from 148 countries across the globe has completely slipped under the radar of all the media puppet-masters.

In a 'better late than never' attempt to do justice

Bye Bye Beijing!

2008_olympics_2.jpgThe Curtain finally fell on the most spectacular Olympic Games that the world has ever seen, today at the Bird's Nest in Beijing. With the world as their witness China put on a spectacle to remember for all the right reasons.

The $40bn Beijing Games which will obviously go down in history for Michael Phelps 8 golds as much as for anything else, also saw China overthrow the United States as the nation to beat as they amassed 51 gold medals to the US' 36. The United States can still take heart from coming away with 110 medals in all to top the charts and the much hyped ‘Redeem Team' winning the Basketball gold.

China despite the overall win; would be disappointed that their two most famous athletes Liu Xiang (1
