An Exclusive Interview with Australian Lawn Bowler Mark Casey

Mark Casey, the ambitious lawn bowler from Gold Coast, Australia took some time out to do an exclusive interview with TheSportsCampus where he discussed the sport and his plans for the future.

Casey began bowling at the age of six but it was only in 1995 when he was thirteen years old that he began to take up the sport seriously after some early success. At national level Casey has bagged wins at the Australian Junior Singles, Pairs and Fours titles as well as the Australian Open Pairs title in 2009.

The Australian has won gold at the 2006 Commonwealth Games and 2007 Asia Pacific Championships and a silver medal at the 2008 World Championships. He has also won a bronze medal at the Eight Nation Test Event held earlier this year in Delhi.

An Exclusive Interview with Australian Lawn Bowler Sharyn Renshaw

sharyn_renshaw.gifForty nine year old former figure skater Sharyn Renshaw is grateful to Lawn Bowls for giving her an opportunity as an older athlete to compete in sport at a high level and is set to represent Australia at the Commonwealth Games in Delhi this October. In an exclusive interview with TheSportsCampus, Sharyn said, "I competed as a figure skater for many years and loved competitive sport... this was a perfect opportunity. I enjoy the variety of people I get to meet and the vast age group from young teenagers through to the veterans who participate in my sport."

Renshaw, who currently coaches Australia's best in men's figure skating, took up lawn bowls at the age of 32 and it is her success in the sport that got her a job at St. John's Park where she works part-time as a junior development officer. She spends around 15-20 hours a week training mostly through competition or performing drills.

An Exclusive Interview with Australian Lawn Bowler Leif Selby

leif_selby.gifTwo-time reigning World Cup winner Leif Selby is the hot favourite for the Gold Medal heading into the Commonwealth Games in Delhi this October. Selby, who has been capped 87 times for Australia shared his aspirations and gave some insight into his preparation in an Exclusive Interview with TheSportsCampus.

Leif was introduced to the sport in school and had played it for the last 22 years. His proficiency has grown to such an extent that in addition to his usual training routine of 2 hours a day and the multitude of events that he participates in, Selby is also now a professional coach. In addition to his wins at the World Cup, Selby is a 3-time gold medalist at the Asia Pacific Championships.

An Exclusive Interview with Canadian Synchro Swimmer Marie-Pier Boudreau Gagnon

'You've come a long way' is the best description one could give the journey of Marie-Pier Boudreau Gagnon from the swimming pools of Rivière-Du-Loup to the Dr.S.P.M. Aquatics Complex in Talkatora Gardens, New Delhi. Gagnon at 27 is the senior citizen on three member Canadian Synchronized Swimming team, and her dedication to her art and the success she has achieved over time is a true testament to her will to succeed.

In an exclusive interview with TheSportsCampus, Marie-Pier revealed that she was introduced to the sport at the age of 7, but began training for it seriously a couple of years later when she first saw Canadian icon Sylvie Fréchette win Gold at the Barcelona Olympic Games. He role model though is Canadian cyclist and speed skater Clara Hughes, one of only 5 people to win medals at both the Summer and Winter Olympics. Hughes is also a great humanitarian, doing tremendous work with Right to Play. Gagnon's inspiration though lies closer to home. Her mother and sisters she says are her main source of strength and motivation.

An Exclusive Interview with Canadian Synchronized Swimmer Elise Marcotte

elise_marcotte.jpgElise Marcotte will be representing Canada in the duet Synchronized Swimming event at the Commonwealth Games which will take place in Delhi next month. The soon to be 22 year old did an exclusive interview with TheSportsCampus where she described Synchronized Swimming as a sport that comprises of both, artistic as well as technical elements.

Marcotte, who began her sojourn with the sport at the adorable age of 5, spends a phenomenal 40 hours a week on training. She qualified on the National AA team at a young age, and now devotes her entire time focussing on international events. Her last outing was at the Japan Open in May where she was part of the team event. Elise was part of the Canadian team that narrowly missed out on a medal, finishing 4th at the Beijing Olympics in 2008.
