Germany has taken a 2-1 lead over Australia on day two of the Davis Cup World Group First Round in Brisbane.

The German pair of Tim Puetz and Jan-Lennard Struff prevailed over Australia’s world No.4 doubles player John Peers and Matt Ebden in five sets and more than three hours on court, 6-4 6-7(1) 6-2 6-7(4) 6-4.

Australia now needs to win both of its reverse singles matches on Sunday to win the tie and move through to the quarterfinals.

Nick Kyrgios and Alexander Zverev will kick off proceedings on day three with Alex De Minaur and Jan-Lennard Struff to follow should the tie go to a live fifth rubber.

The winner of this tie will face the winner of Great Britain and Spain in April.
