Nick Kyrgios claimed his first ATP Tour title on home soil after a dominant defeat of American Ryan Harrison in the final of the 2018 Brisbane International.

Kyrgios was in imperious form at Pat Rafter Arena on Sunday night, sweeping past the American 6-4 6-2 to become the first Australian since Lleyton Hewitt in 2014 to capture the title in Brisbane.

The Canberran fired down his 17th ace of the match to clinch victory in front of an ecstatic home crowd of 6,256, which took the total attendance for the tournament to 90,252.

“It’s a good feeling. As the week went on, I started serving better and hitting the ball better. There was pressure on me today because I was the favourite and most people expected me to win, so I was proud of the way I handled that expectation and pressure,” said the young Australian.

It completed a memorable night for home players at Queensland Tennis Centre, with Kyrgios’ Davis Cup teammate John Peers claiming the men’s doubles title in partnership with Henri Kontinen.

The duo lost the first set 6-3 to the Argentine pair Leonardo Mayer and Horacio Zeballos, but roared back to take the second set by the same scoreline, and duly completed victory by winning the decider 10-2.
