The Free State bowling attack was in top form to help their side to a 114-run win against Gauteng in the three-day Sunfoil Cup provincial tournament last week.

Free State won the toss and elected to bat, but got off to a poor start as their opening batsmen both went out for ducks. Captain Patrick Botha (74 off 60 balls, 14 fours), supported by Corné Dry (41, 7 fours) helped Free State post 243 all out in their first innings.

The bowling attack of the visitors was excellent as they restricted Gauteng to  134 all out in their response. Dry and Nealan van Heerden were exceptional with the ball, sharing 8 wickets in the first innings.

The Free State side then went back into bat for their second innings and declared at 228/6, with Diego Rosier scoring 60 (6 fours) and Leus du Plooy 52 (5 fours).

The home team had to chase a target of 329 runs but were restricted to 214 all out, with Loyiso Mdashe taking 3 wickets from 10.5 overs in the second innings.

Gauteng managed to hit back with a 35-run victory in the CSA Provincial one-day cup. Free State again won the toss and this time opted to field first. Gauteng set a target of 296 thanks to the batting of Stephen Cook who made a century and Delano Potgieter who backed him up with an unbeaten 76.

Free State fell just short, being dismissed for 260 with Diego Rosier being the main contributor with 60 (4 fours).
