Three wickets from seamer Kofi Apea-Adu ensured Easterns ended the Africa T20 Cup with a consolation win after they edged out Western Province by 11 runs at Sahara Park Willowmoore in Benoni on Sunday.

The 22-year-old claimed three for 25 to help the host union defend their 163/8 by bowling out the visitors for 152 in 18.2 overs.

The match was already a dead rubber after Namibia secured qualification from Pool A, but both sides were looking to salvage some pride after losing their opening two games on Friday and Saturday.

WP, who ended with the wooden spoon, won the toss and fielded first, but their batsman conceded the biggest total of the week.

This was set up by a 67-run opening stand between top-scorer Tumelo Bodibe (40) and Wesley Marshall (31). There were also some useful late contributions by Jurie Snyman (23) and Sizwe Zulu, who blasted 19 off just nine balls.

Luke Philander was the best of the bowlers with two for 21.

Province were in early trouble after wickets for Tumelo Simelane (2/23), Matthew Arnold (2/14) and Katleho Bala (2/17), but Michael Loubser’s 48 off 23 balls, which included four sixes, and 38 by Carlos Koyana put them on course for victory.

But they slumped from 124/5 to 152 all out – Apea-Adu providing the killer blows – to slip to a third straight loss.
