A blistering century by Janneman Malan followed a career-best, five-wicket-haul from Migael Pretorius to help the Powerade South Africa Emerging team charge to a powerful, six-wicket win over Zimbabwe A in the opening match of their three-match, one-day series in Harare on.

The tourists, who already won the four-day leg of the trip 1-0, continued that momentum at the Harare Sports Club, chasing down a victory target of 216 with a massive 19 overs to spare.

This thanks to right-hander Malan smashing 108 (79 balls, 14 fours, 5 sixes) and seamer Pretorius grabbing five for 34 in 8.5 overs before that – his maiden five-for in List A cricket.

South Africa’s captain Yaseen Vallie had won the toss at the start and his decision to bowl first was fully vindicated as Zimbabwe were bowled out for 216 in 47.5 overs. The home side did look in good shape for the better part of their innings thanks to half-centuries from Chamu Chibhabha (55) and Timycen Maruma (58).

They were on 214/5 at one stage, before Pretorius blew away the tail by taking four of the last five wickets as the Zimbabweans lost five men for two runs to be all out with 13 balls to spare.

Malan then gave the hosts little chance with his third career ton well supported by Senuran Muthusamy (39) as the away side reached their target in 31 overs.

The second match takes place at the same venue on Friday.
