Openers, Jiveshan Pillay and Matthew Breetzke both hit centuries as the Coca-Cola South Africa under-19s went 2-1 up in their five-match series against West Indies after a thumping, 115-run victory in the third Youth One-Day International in Pietermaritzburg on Friday.

Left-hander Pillay, top-scored with a fine 110 (123 balls, 16 fours, 2 sixes) while the right-handed Breetzke plundered 106 (108 balls, 9 fours, 2 sixes), as the hosts amassed 288/6 in their 50 overs.

The pair put on a splendid 198 for the first wicket, before Jesse Christensen came in number four and added 40 to help lift them to a strong total after they had lost the toss and were asked to bat first.

Te-Shawn Alleyne was the pick of the bowlers with 2/28.

The West Indian chase kicked off well as their top-scorer Keagan Simmons, who made 48, added 50 with Bhaskar Yadram (18) in quick time. But after Fraser Jones removed the latter, the islanders lost their way in the face of some disciplined bowling by the home side.

Jones (2/42), Gerald Coetzee (2/27), Kgaudise Molefe (2/33) and Jade de Klerk (2/33) all claimed two wickets apiece to leave the defending U19 World Cup champions all out for 173 in 39 overs.

The fourth match of the series takes place at the same venue on Sunday.
