Spaniard Rafael Nadal became the first tennis player to win 10 titles in any Grand Slam tournament in the Open Era as he outclassed Stanislas Wawrinka in the French Open final on Sunday.

Fourth seeded Nadal registered a 6-2, 6-3, 6-1 victory in two hours and five minutes over the Swiss third seed in the men's singles final. With this win, the Spaniard took sole possession of second place on the all-time list for most Grand Slam titles won with his 15th trophy of career.

Such was Nadal's dominance at Roland Garros this year that he won the title without losing a set over the two weeks of the tournament. Amazingly enough, he has achieved this feat twice before - in 2008 and 2010.

Speaking after his win, the incredible Spaniard said, “You know, on paper, when you look at the scores, it all seems fairly easy, but it's not. As I said before, the French Open is the most important tournament of the year. That means when you arrive in Paris, I'm very nervous and I know that it's going to be difficult for me. Year after year it's becoming increasingly difficult, because I'm getting older, also.

“I was not able to catch my chance last year. This year I was … Again, it's possible only because I have been physically strong and I have been mentally strong.”

Wawrinka was predictably disappointed with his performance, sharing, “I think from the beginning from my side, for sure, I didn't play my best tennis. I think I was a little bit hesitating with my selection of shots. I was always a little bit between for a few reasons. He puts this doubt in your head when you play against him because he’s playing so well. And all the effort I have been doing last few weeks to get to my best level again, to get some confidence again, and to win all those matches, some tough matches. So many reasons made that score today, but mainly because he was playing better.”
