West Indies openers Kraigg Brathwaite and Kieran Powell survived purposeful bowling from the visitors in a tense 45 minutes before stumps as the host began their first innings in the decisive third and final Test in Dominica.

Brathwaite was not out on five and left-hander Powell was not out on nine, as the Windies reached 14 without loss, replying to the Pakistanis’ first innings total of 376 at the close on the second day of the contest at Windsor Park.

Earlier, Chase had grabbed 4-103 from 32 overs and skipper Jason Holder supported with 3-71 from the same number of overs, including wickets off consecutive deliveries after tea, as the home team dismissed the visitors about 35 minutes before the scheduled close.

Holder’s side endured another long, hard slog, but they reaped rewards in contrast to the opening day, as Azhar hit the top score of 127, his 14th Test hundred, retiring captain Misbah-ul-Haq survived a couple of chances, including being dropped on zero, to make 59 and wicketkeeper/batsman Sarfraz Ahmed gave the innings late momentum with 51.

Summarised scores:

PAKISTAN 376 (Azhar Ali 127, Misbah-ul-Haq 59, Babar Azam 55, Sarfraz Ahmed 51; Roston Chase 4-103, Jason Holder 3-71, Devendra Bishoo 2-61). WEST INDIES 14 without loss.
