Sri Lanka Under 19s have held on for a draw in the three-day match against Australia Under 19s at Hobart’s Kingston Twin Ovals.
Australia skipper Will Sutherland declared his side’s second innings at 8-142, setting Sri Lanka 268 for victory with just under two sessions of play remaining on the final day. Sri Lanka was 7-201 at the close of play, with captain Kamindu Mendis (41 off 104 deliveries) and Nipun Sumanasinghe (31 not out) preventing an Australian victory.
Fast bowler Ryan Hadley was the pick of the bowlers in the second innings, finishing with 4-41. Sutherland, Lloyd Pope and Iain Carlisle all picked up one wicket each.
Australia all-rounder Jack Edwards was named Player of the Match for his first innings century, which alongside a century from fellow all-rounder Jonathan Merlo allowed the hosts to control the running of the game after a first innings of 6-309 declared.
