A resolute half-century from skipper Jason Holder failed to prevent Pakistan from clinching a 74-run victory over West Indies in the second One-day International of the Brighto Paints presents the Q Mobile Cup Series on Sunday.

Holder hit the top score of 68 and Ashley Nurse made 44 to add some respectability to the Windies batting, as they were dismissed for 208 in 44.5 overs in pursuit of a victory target of 283 before a near capacity crowd at the Guyana National Stadium.

Holder and Nurse shared 58 for the seventh wicket, after the home team slid to 75 for six in the 18th over, as their batting was undermined by fast-medium bowler Hassan Ali with a career-best 5-38 from 8.5 overs.

Earlier, West Indies hopes of making inroads into the Pakistan batting met defiance from an all-too-familiar foe, as Babar Azam anchored the innings to collect his fifth ODI hundred of 125, his fourth in five matches against Holder’s side, as the visitors posted 282 for five from 50 overs.

The Windies saw Babar share half-century stands with Mohammad Hafeez and skipper Sarfraz Ahmed before his 99-run, unbroken, sixth-wicket stand with left-hander Imad Wasim gave the Pakistanis the edge in the latter stages of their innings.

Summarised scores:

PAKISTAN 282 for five off 50 overs (Babar Azam 125 not out, Imad Wasim 43 not out, Mohammed Hafeez 32, Sarfraz Ahmed 26, Kamram Akmal 21; Shannon Gabriel 2-50)

WEST INDIES 208 off 44.5 overs (Jason Holder 68, Ashley Nurse 44; Hassan Ali 8.5-1-38-5, Mohammad Hafeez 2-23)
