Manchester City made the most of a midweek series of games that saw all of their rivals in the top 6 in the Premier League drop points, thrashing West Ham United 4-0 at the Olympic Stadium with Gabriel Jesus opening his account for the Citizens after star striker Sergio Aguero was left on the bench.

City, one of the few teams now to make mass changes from the side that won them their FA Cup game away to Crystal Palace at the weekend, earned the rewards of consistency with their cracking front five dovetailing beautifully as they tore a poor West Ham side completely to shreds.

Kevin de Bruyne was the first to get his name on the scoresheet, playing a good one two with Jesus, before putting the finishing touches on the move, giving Darren Randolph absolutely no chance in the West Ham goal.

Four minutes later, David Silva added a second, this time tapping home Leroy Sane's deflected cross after the young German waltzed around West Ham's defenders like they weren't there.

Jesus settled the game as a contest before half-time, getting a tap in himself, after being setup by Raheem Sterling as the City frontline completely ran West Ham ragged.

With the game in the bag, Yaya Toure added a little gloss to the scoreline, stroking home from the penalty spot after Sterling was brought down in the box by West Ham's debutant Jose Fonte.

The win for Manchester City takes them level on points with Liverpool, and now just one shy of second placed Tottenham and their local rivals Arsenal, both of whom have 47 points from 23 games.

City though still trail league leaders Chelsea by 10 points, but will hope to go on another winning run with games against Swansea City and Bournemouth to follow.
