McEnroe brothers to play together at Australian Open Legends event

The McEnroe brothers, John and Patrick (USA), will debut in the Australian Open Legends event, which gets underway at Melbourne Park tomorrow, Saturday 21 January. Hisense Arena will host the duo’s first match against French pairing Mansour Bahrami and Fabrice Santoro at 11am.

John McEnroe, winner of seven Grand Slam titles in an illustrious career, will take a break from commentary to compete alongside his younger brother Patrick, who won the French Open doubles title in 1989.

Other notable names in the stellar line-up include Carlos Moya (ESP), Henri Leconte (FRA), Goran Ivanisevic (CRO), Jonas Bjorkman (SWE), Michael Chang (USA), Wayne Ferreira (RSA) and Todd Martin (USA), plus home-grown favourites Pat Cash (VIC), Mark Philippoussis (VIC), Todd Woodbridge (NSW) and Wayne Arthurs (VIC).

On the women’s side, Mary Joe Fernandez (USA), Barbara Schett (AUT), Iva Majoli (CRO), Lindsay Davenport (USA) and Martina Navratilova (USA) will feature alongside locals Nicole Bradtke (VIC), Rennae Stubbs (NSW) and Alicia Molik (WA).

Between them, the 28 legends competing have amassed a grand total of 130 Grand Slam titles.
