Chelsea are believed to be keeping tabs on Fenerbahce defender Simon Kjaer, and, according to reports in Italian publication Gazzetta dello Sport, the Blues are now looking to table a £16m bid in order to bring the player to Stamford Bridge.
The west London giants are understood to be wishful of signing a new defender as soon as possible in order to ensure their push for this year’s Premier League title doesn’t encounter any hiccups in the months to come, at least in the defensive department.
Kjaer, meanwhile, is a versatile player, who, apart from plying his trade in his tradition centre back role, can also play as a defensive midfielder whenever required by his team. He spent his playing career in countries like Denmark, Italy, Germany and France before moving to Turkey in the summer of 2015, which in turn indicates the loads of experience that he possesses. Additionally, he has also represented his country 66 times on the international stage so far, and is currently the captain of the side.
Fenerbahce, however, are expected to play hardball with the Blues if they come calling for Kjaer’s signature, especially as the player is currently their first choice central defender. In the midst of it all, it would be interesting to see what Antonio Conte has to offer to the Turkish giants in order to realize his expectation of seeing the Dane play for his side this season.
