Everton eyeing triple January swoop for Manchester United benchwarmers

Everton have definitely taken a shining towards the Manchester United squad and believe they can improve their own dramatically in the January transfer window if they pick up players en masse from Old Trafford.

Chances are you've probably already heard about the Toffees' rumoured interest in Memphis Depay and Morgan Schneiderlin with the blue half of Merseyside beckoning for the duo, but the latest player of interest to Everton will certainly come as a surprise as Ronald Koeman is plotting a shock move for England international Chris Smalling.

The injury prone defender isn't one of Jose Mourinho's favourites after refusing to play a game earlier this season while carrying a niggle and it seems Koeman is of the opinion that he can coerce the Portuguese Manager into parting with the player with a sufficiently attractive bid.

Everton have also been linked with a 50 million pound swoop for Southampton defender Virgil van Dijk, and with Smalling likely to cost considerably less than that figure, it is certainly worth it for the Toffees to test Mourinho's desire to keep the England international with an attractive enough bid.

With Victor Lindelof and Jose Fonte rumoured to be on Mourinho's shopping list this January, there appears to be enough weight behind this rumour to consider that it could come to fruition.
