Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero was on Monday banned for four games and his team-mate Fernandinho for three matches by the English Football Association (FA). Both men will miss crucial games away to Champions Leicester City and the visit of North London giants Arsenal as a result.

Aguero, who was retrospectively banned earlier in the season after a clash with West Ham's Winston Reid, was sent off against Chelsea in a 1-3 defeat on Saturday for a horror tackle on defender David Luiz.

Aguero will now miss the games against Leicester City, Watford, Arsenal and Hull City but will be available for Tuesday's Champions League game with Celtic and the New Year's Eve clash with Liverpool.

Fernandinho, who was also dismissed against Chelsea, has received a three-match domestic ban and will be available next for their trip to Hull on December 26. The Brazilian had grabbed Spanish midfielder Cesc Fabregas by the neck before eventually shoving him over the advertising hoardings in the on pitch melee that followed Aguero's sending off.

Both players are integral to Manager Pep Guardiola's plans and practically the first two names on his teamsheet and will no doubt be sorely missed in the upcoming games.

Manchester City has decided to accept the verdicts and won't appeal against them.
