Mohamed Salah and Abdullah al-Saeed were on target as the Egyptian national men's football team defeated Ghana 2-0 in a FIFA World Cup 2018 qualifying match in Alexandria.
Salah, a forward playing for AS Roma in the Italian Serie A, scored the first goal from the penalty spot three minutes before the end of the first half while Egypt's Al-Ahly midfielder Abdullah al-Saeed scored the second a few minutes before the end of the match on Sunday evening.
The Ghanaian team played well, but conceding the penalty at a critical time in the first half changed the game.
With this win, Egypt have taken the lead in Group E of the African World Cup qualifiers with six points. Apart from Egypt and Ghana, the group also includes Uganda and Congo.
Twenty African teams are competing in the third and final round of the qualifiers that started last month. A total of five slots are available for African teams for the 2018 FIFA World Cup that will be held in Russia.
