Reigning Wimbledon and Olympic Champion Andy Murray led the way for the big guns into the second round of the US Open at Flushing Meadows on Tuesday.

Murray looked in superb form as he brushed aside the challenge of Lukas Rosol of the Czech Republic 6-3, 6-2, 6-2 under lights.

After five games on serve, Murray broke Rosol's serve in the 6th game and never really looked back, winning 14 of the next 19 games to complete the rout. Murray was impregnable on his serve, throwing down 11 aces. The Scot will face Spain's Marcel Granollers in round two.

Speaking after his win, Murray said, "I served very well. It was a tough start to the match and once I got the break up, I started to relax and play well. I don't think I had any break points against me, which was good, I had good variation on the second serve as well."

Stan Wawrinka, David Ferrer and Feliciano Lopez were among the winners in the men's first-round at the US Open.

The third-seed Wawrinka, who reached the semi-finals last year, defeated Spaniard Fernando Verdasco 7-6 (4), 6-4, 6-4 in 2 hours and 17 minutes.

The Swiss player survived four break points and broke Verdasco twice, once each in the second and third sets to seal a hard earned win.

On the other hand, Ferrer eased past Ukraine's Alexandr Dolgopolov, who was trailing 6-5 in the first set when he retired due to an injury.

Another Spaniard, 16th-seeded Feliciano Lopez won in similar fashion, falling behind 3-4 in the first set to Borna Coric before the Croatian was forced to retire because of injury.
