Indian golfer Aditi Ashok finished her maiden appearance at the Olympics with a five over 76 - taking her cumulative score to seven over 291 after the fourth round in Rio on Saturday.

The 18-year-old, who had shot successive rounds of three under 68 over the first two days of competition, was eventually placed 41st at the end of her final round.

Aditi, who was within 4 shots of the leaders after two rounds, had a disastrous back nine yesterday as she dropped 7 shots with three bogeys and 2 double bogeys, including one of the 18th and final hole.

Her morning on Saturday didn't start particularly well either as she bogeyed the opening hole and then double bogeyed the third.

The Indian teenager appeared to be getting her game together as she made 8 straight pars, but bogeys on the 12th and 14th meant that she finished the day poorly, without making a single birdie in her last two rounds.

Despite her disappointing finish, Aditi hoped that her performances at the Olympics will encourage children to take up the sport. Taking to twitter after her round, Aditi said, "I hope to see more kids playing golf @IndianGolfUnion Thank you. I had a great week playing @OlympicGolf #IND."

Korea's Inbee Park with a score of 268 clinched the gold while New Zealand's Lydia Ko shot 273 for the silver, and China's Shanshan Feng, with a cumulative score of 274 settled for the bronze.
