Spanish football club Villarreal on Thursday announced the signing of Argentine player Cristian Espinoza on a five year contract.

Espinoza is a 21-year-old midfielder, who has played for three seasons in the first division with CA Huracan, reports Efe. The club has not disclosed further information about the deal but confirmed they had paid the player's release clause to sign him. Reports in Argentina suggest that Espinoza's termination clause was worth 7.2 million euros ($8 million).

An attacking midfielder, Espinoza had made in excess of 80 appearances for Huracan. He has also been capped 11 times by the Argentina Under-20 squad and is seen as a rising star in his home country.

Huracan is famous for being the former club of one time Argentine star Osvaldo Ardiles, who won the 1978 FIFA World Cup and spent a large chunk of his professional career in London with Tottenham Hotspur.
