Chelsea manager Antonio Conte has hinted that star striker Diego Costa could be heading towards the exit door this summer.

The Italian boss was quoted telling reporters after his side’s 3-2 loss to Real Madrid in their pre-season friendly: “I can say that today Costa is a Chelsea player... Tomorrow if you ask me if Costa will remain with us, I don’t know.”

Conte went on to reveal that the Spaniard didn’t play in the match because of an injury, and that if he does recuperate from it soon enough, and is able to train well with the side, he may feature in their next match against AC Milan.

Costa, who was one of the standout players for the Blues during their Premier League triumph under Jose Mourinho in the 2014-15 season, was far from his best last year, much like the rest of the club squad. He has since been linked with a probable move back to Atletico Madrid, with the 27 year old also believed to have complained about life in England in general on more than just a couple of occasions.

Chelsea, meanwhile, are themselves known to be looking to land Romelu Lukaku this summer, despite having recently signed Michy Batshuayi, which further raises questions over the long term future of the Spaniard at Stamford Bridge.
