Germany eased their way into the Quarter-finals of Euro 2016 with a comfortable 3-0 win over Slovakia in a game which they completely dominated from start to finish.

Jerome Boateng scored his first ever goal for the German national team, a scorcher from 25 yards to put Germany ahead in the 8th minute. A missed penalty from Arsenal playmaker Mesut Ozil in the 13th minute proved inconsequential as Mario Gomez tapped in from close range two minutes before the interval to give Germany a deserved 2-0 lead heading into the break.

Slovakia competed better in the early stages of the second half, but a 63rd minute goal from Man of the Match Julian Draxler killed the game as s contest allowing Germany to protect their booked players and go through the rest of the game in cruise control.

The margin of victory in the end probably should have been even larger with Ton Kroos having a late effort saved by the Slovakian keeper when he really should have left the net bulging.

Up next for Germany is a quarter-final showdown with either Italy or Spain, with both sides having done rather well against the Germans at past major events.

Teams:

Germany: Neuer, Hector, Hummels, Boateng (Howedes 70'), Kimmich, Khedira (Schweinsteiger 78'), Ozil, Draxler (Podolski 70'), Muller, Kroos, Gomez

Slovakia: Kozacik, Pekarík, Skrtel, Durica, Gyomber, Weiss (Gregus 46'), Hrosovsky, Skriniar, Hamsik, Kucka, Duris

Final Score: Germany 3-0 Slovakia (Boateng 8', Gomez 43', Draxler 63')
