roger_federer3Roger Federer's preparation for Wimbledon aren't going as planned. After falling prey to 22 year old Austrian Dominic Thiem in Stuttgart last week, the Swiss legend crashed out of the semi-finals of a tournament that he has virtually owned over the last decade and a half, the Halle Open.

Eight-time Halle Champion, Federer, was sent packing by German teenager Alexander Zverev in an entertaining three set contest, 7-6, 5-7, 6-3.

6 foot 6 inch Zverev, just 19, produced a near perfect first set on his serve, dropping just 4 points on his delivery en route to taking it 7-4 in a tiebreak. Federer finally managed to get a measure of Zverev's serve late in the second set, breaking the youngster in the 11th game, wrapping up the set in the next game 7-5.

Zverev though wasn't deterred and picked up the vital break in the 6th game of the final set, before serving it out 6-3 finishing with an incredible 39 winners in the three set contest.

Zverev will face compatriot Florian Mayer in Sunday's final. Mayer was a surprise 6-3, 6-4 winner of Thiem in the second semi-final.

Both vanquished players will head to London to begin their preparations for Wimbledon, which kicks off on 27th June. Federer hasn't won a Grand Slam since winning Wimbledon 4 years ago.
