Spain and Chelsea forward Pedro Rodriguez expressed confidence that the current controversy over the alleged involvement of Manchester United Goalkeeper David de Gea in a sexual assault case will not affect the decision of Head Coach Vicente del Bosque regarding his choice of keeper at the European Championships.

When asked about the effects of such allegations on the technical decision of the Spanish coach who may opt to replace De Gea with goalkeeper Iker Casillas, the Chelsea forward explained that he does not think this will affect any decision on De Gea's participation in the European tournament.

Pedro pointed out that the news about this case will have no impact on the team at the Euros, as they, including De Gea, trained very well and are focused to win their tournament opener against the Czech Republic on Monday.

Pedro did add though that De Gea is "quiet" and had the support of his team-mates.

De Gea rejected on Friday a story in the Spanish press connecting him to an alleged sexual assault.

El Diario newspaper said the Manchester United star was identified by a witness in a police report as the person who arranged and paid for a 2012 sexual encounter in Madrid involving a pair of prostitutes and two members of Spain's Under-21 squad.
