Nine stitches to repair a split-webbing on his left hand did not prevent Royal Challengers Bangalore skipper Virat Kohli from taking the field on Wednesday night, and fans of the club will be happy that he did, as the irrepressible 27 year old smashed his fourth ton of what has been an exceptional season for the Delhi lad as he led his side to yet another win, one which takes them to the dizzying heights of second place in the Indian Premier League standings, ahead of three other teams also on 14 points courtesy of a better net run rate.

And than net run rate for the Royal Challengers could well be worth a point in itself as the side racked up a third straight win, this time by another ridiculous margin of 82 runs after the rain had reduced their contest with the Kings XI Punjab to 15 overs a side.

Having been put in to bat under cloudy skies, Virat Kohli (113 off 50 balls) and Chris Gayle (73 off 32 balls) completely obliterated the Kings XI bowling, smashing 8 sixes each, with the former also adding another 12 boundaries to his quota. The opening pair contributed 147 runs in just 11 overs, and despite losing AB de Villiers for a rare duck, the runs kept coming for RCB, who scored an incredible 211 runs in their 15 overs.

The Kings XI Punjab were always likely to struggle to compete, and the necessity to go after the bowling right from the start with an asking rate in excess of 14 runs an over meant that they lost wickets at regular intervals and were never in the contest.

Kings XI just about escaped being bowled out as the match was forced to end an over early with Duckworth Lewis reducing the winning margin to 82 runs.

Yuzvendra Chahal excelled with the ball once again for Bangalore, picking up 4 wickets for 25 runs in his 3 overs, while Shane Watson and Sreenath Arvind picked up two wickets each.

The Royal Challengers will next head to Raipur where they will square off against the Delhi Daredevils on Sunday.
